A Kochen-Specker Theorem for Unsharp Spin 1 Observables

چکیده
Unsharp spin observables are shown to arise from the fact that a residual uncertainty about the actual alignment of the measurement device remains. If the uncertainty is below a certain level, and if the distribution misalignments is covariant under rotations, a Kochen-Specker theorem for the unsharp spin observables follows: There are finite sets of directions such that not all the unsharp spin observables in these directions can consistently be assigned approximate truth-values in a non-contextual way.

Observables have no value: a no-go theorem for position and momentum observables
One of the central questions in the interpretation of quantum mechanics from a realist perspective is whether the indeterminacies or uncertainties in quantum mechanics are of an ontological or gnoseological character. They are gnoseological if the observables of the system possess exact values that quantum mechanics is unable to predict and can only provide probability distributions for them. I...
متن کاملStrong Kochen-Specker theorem and incomputability of quantum randomness
The Kochen-Specker theorem shows the impossibility for a hidden variable theory to consistently assign values to certain (finite) sets of observables in a way that is noncontextual and consistent with quantum mechanics. If we require noncontextuality, the consequence is that many observables must not have pre-existing definite values. However, the Kochen-Specker theorem does not allow one to de...
متن کاملInequalities for experimental tests of the Kochen-Specker theorem
We derive inequalities for n spin-1/2 systems under the assumption that the hidden-variable theoretical joint probability distribution for any pair of commuting observables is equal to the quantum mechanical one. Fine showed that this assumption is connected to the no-hidden-variables theorem of Kochen and Specker (KS theorem). These inequalities give a way to experimentally test the KS theorem...
متن کاملKochen-Specker Theorem Revisited and Strong Incomputability of Quantum Randomness
We present a stronger variant of the Kochen-Specker theorem in which some quantum observables are identified to be provably value indefinite. This result is utilised for the construction and certification of a dichotomic quantum random number generator operating in a three-dimensional Hilbert space.
متن کاملKochen-Specker theorem for von Neumann algebras
The Kochen-Specker theorem has been discussed intensely ever since its original proof in 1967. It is one of the central no-go theorems of quantum theory, showing the non-existence of a certain kind of hidden states models. In this paper, we first offer a new, non-combinatorial proof for quantum systems with a type In factor as algebra of observables, including I∞. Afterwards, we give a proof of...
